We received an invite from Mercedes-Benz of Edinburgh and while we were excited about it, we weren’t sure what to expect from the event.
It turns out it was actually one of the best (if not the best) things we’ve attended all year!
If you’re not familiar with the format, 32 cars compete in drag races over the 1.8 kilometre second runway at Edinburgh Airport. This is the seventh time the event has taken place; but this was the first time that BeTapp’d have been in attendance.
After practice and a first round, the 32 runners are cut to 16 and then to 8. The semi final features the top 4 and finally the two fastest cars battle out over 3 runs with the fastest elapsed time in any given run in the final taking the title.
As well as the car racing, the guys from Ducati Glasgow provided a showcase of two-wheeled performance feature a 1198 Panagale S. These guys have balls of steel!
It shouldn’t be forgotten that the event is primarily a fund raising effort and in all, £14,500 was raised for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice which was incredible!
We’ve uploaded a copy of the results and they are available here. Many congratulations to the overall winner, Graham Kinghorn in a Porsche 991 Turbo S, the runner up Gordon Miller in the awesome sounding V10 Audi R8 and John Kyle for setting the fastest speed in his Ferrari FF. John hit speeds of over 172mph!

Thanks to Mercedes-Benz of Edinburgh for the invite and to Reza Jumani for allowing Al to ride with him in the second round.
